Adam - Doing the right thing versus being the right person.
I'm going to kind of create this distinction between, between doing the right thing and being the right person, and I'm going to I'm going to assert that you need to focus more on being the right person, rather than doing the right thing when you when you are when you become the right person, right, then the actions are going are going to, to, to, the results are going to come now.
Now let me just, just preface this, you know, we talked about about be, do, have right. Like, you've got to be, you've got you've got to, you've got to be a certain way, right before you take the right actions before you get the results, right, and we all know this, right, we've all I mean that, you know, we're entrepreneurs were home based business owners we've we've, we've been exposed to these mindset concepts before like be do have.
However, if you're not living it, then you don't really know it right those those one of the things I learned from the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, which is one of the first success, personal development books that I ever read, where he said that if you, if you're not living it, you don't really know it, you've heard of it, right, but people and that's a that's a, that's a problem that's that's an important distinction itself.
Is that is that you're you you don't really know something and people, you know they they act as if they know, right, when in reality you don't know, you've heard of it before, but you don't really know it unless you're living. Okay so with B do have a lot of people have. They've heard B do have and they understand it conceptually, but they're not, they're not living it, they still think that like that it's like okay well I'll just, you know Well, I'll start investing in my business once I get the results or I'll start acting like a successful business owner, once I become a successful business owner. Right you are, you're not going to get the results of a seven figure entrepreneur.
If you're being a six figure entrepreneur, right, because the seven figure entrepreneur has a different attitude they have different beliefs, they've got different thoughts, they've got different, they've got different habits, right. So, and then you know the same.
The same thing goes we know regardless of if you're trying to get to the level of a six figure entrepreneur, right, but you're being somebody who makes 500 bucks a month, right, you're never you're never going to get there, you're not you're not going to unless, unless you start focusing on how you were being right, okay, that's not even, you know the topic that was just a little side tangent.
The topic is doing the right thing versus being the right person. Okay, so it's not good enough to, and this this is a big mistake that I see a lot of people in the home business industry make, they think that that they're like, Oh, if I'm just in the right place at the right time. Right, they think that success is somehow going to land on them randomly, because they happen to be in the right place at the right time, they found the opportunity at the right time, they got in at the ground floor level, and they're just lucky enough that they're going to become successful.
That definitely does not work like that. What you have to be focused on. You've got to be the right person at the right place at the right time. So it's not good enough to be at the right place at the right time. You've got to be the right person at the right place at the right time, see if, when, when you are the right person, and then you meet the opportunity, you're at, you're at the right place at the right time, that's when things can just friggin explode for you and your business and your finances and your life right but not until you are until it's all, you become the right person, so that you are able to make the right decisions, right, take the right actions, then, then the results come.
Okay, so, you know Jim Jim Rohn. Jim Rohn, you know, probably the godfather of personal development Jim Rohn said. He said a lot of a lot of wonderful things. I highly recommend getting getting yourself, you know, just getting some, some materials from Jim Rohn, I have a book called leading an inspired life by Jim Rohn that I think is amazing.
If you have an Audible account just search for anything by Jim Rohn, you know, it's very, very high level very philosophical, but it's just like, you know just ways that you that you want to approach your life and business by.
So one of the things that Jim said, is you want to work harder on yourself than you, then you do on your business, work harder on yourself than you work on your business. I mean, that sounds kind of counterintuitive don't I don't I have to work harder on my business if I want the business to succeed, but that's short term thinking. Right, doing, doing versus being it's it's it's short term thinking versus long term thinking.
Right, so you've got to work harder on yourself than, then you than you do on your business, working harder on the business that's doing the right thing, working harder on yourself that's being the right person, so that when opportunity comes, you're able to meet it and it doesn't even matter. Here's an example of how of how people get this really wrong. Right.
One of the things that we that we provide in the coaching program is we provide scripts, right, we give you scripts of what to say, on the phone, right, but the best script in the world is going to do nothing for you. If you're not able to like read the other person, if you're if you're, if your energy sucks, right, the best script in the world is going to do nothing for you. It makes zero difference if you if you know exactly what to say.
And there's a guy Jerry Clark he said the way that he says this is, it's not the words you say it's the music that you play. That's what I mean by doing the right thing versus being the right person. Now if you're the right person, right, if you if you are able to, you know, elevate yourself, Right, elevate your thoughts, your, your attitude, your beliefs, your habits, right, if you can elevate yourself to a higher level.
Right then, then you get a script. Now you can actually do something with it. Now you're able, I mean you could throw the script out the window and still have a ton of success, you can't do that the other way. Right, if you're the revenue if you are if you, you know have a bad attitude. How many of you know you can't have a great business and a crappy attitude about the business. You just can't. You've got to fix the attitude first. You fix the attitude right you fix the attitude about about the business.
Right and that's when things are able to start to transform that's when, that's when you're able to, to create Newley, rather than creating on top of a bunch of, you know, a bunch of limiting thoughts and beliefs that are that are holding you back that you're not seeing, because you've got this belief that like sales and marketing is bad, yet you're trying to create success in your business, you know, by doing sales and marketing, but you've got this belief that that sales marketing or if it's bad or somehow it's like negative or something, you're never going to get the result. I don't care how much information you have, I don't care what what teaching you have if that belief is embedded into your mind, you've got to fix the belief before you're ever going to be able to do anything with the action.
You guys let me know let me know in the comments. If you're if you're getting if you're tracking with me, if this is hitting home with some of you, let me know. Let me know in the comments. All right. I got a couple of notes here just check it out.
Okay so another example of this, right, doing the right thing versus being the right person is, if you're only motivated by the outcome and not by the process. Okay, you've got to, how many of you know the difference between leading indicators and lagging indicators, a leading indicator or elements and let me tell you, let me back up a little bit a lagging indicator is the goal, right.
So let's say your goal is to make $10,000 This month, that is a lagging indicator, a leading indicator is where are the actions that you need to be producing, what are the actions that you need to be performing on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, in order to hit that result right if you are only focused on the result, and not focus on the actions that you need to take in order to hit the result, you are going to have a very bad time, you're gonna have a very bad experience as an entrepreneur, you've got to be, you've got to be setting goals, but then also following up those goals with the appropriate actions.
Okay every anybody could just set a goal okay I want to make $10,000 This month I mean, every network marketer in the world, you know, regardless of where you know that every network marketer in the world who just starts out they want to make $10,000 a month. Because that's like, that's just like, I'm not sure what exactly it is about the $10,000 like we survey network marketers, all the time like all day every day.
We're asking network marketers okay what is your goal, what is it that you want for yourself and all like, one of the very big goals that the majority of people say that they want is they want to make $10,000 a month.
Okay. So, but, but when you ask like, Okay, do you know what you need to do the actions that you need to take in order to get there, what does your business have to look like, how many people do you have to be enrolling on on a regular basis to hit that number, it's like gigantic question. They have no idea. Right.
So, you've got to, you've got to fall in love with the process, right, you've got to, you've got to find enjoyment in the process of getting to the goal. Another thing that we teach is the morning formula in your morning formula, right, we give you, like we give you points on the momentum tracker. Right so so we have you track your points, one of the things that we give you points for is your morning formula, but if you're just reading the morning formula just so that you can get a point on the momentum tracker, that is, that is doing the right thing versus being the right person.
It's exactly what I mean, say, when you, when you, the purpose of the morning formula is to get you really clear on your vision, and like so that so that the actions that you take that day is aligned with the vision that you have for your life, in your business.
And so that you know that the actions that you're going to take this day or the challenges that you're going to face on this day are worth the struggle, it's worth the challenge because you know where you're headed right that's the whole point of the mourning formula is to is to create a creative vision and get you present to that vision for your life in your business, how you want people to see you, how you how you want to like the results that you want for yourself in your business. If your morning formula does not inspire you.
If it does not give you energy, you are doing it wrong. Stop doing it just to go through the motions, just because we tell you to, like, you've got to get really clear and really present to what it is that you want. If your morning formula isn't giving you that juice that energy that excitement, you've got to change it. Don't Don't forget forget what, what, you know what I have on there that's on my morning formula, you've got to put on there, what you want.
Maybe for you it's a, you know it's a vacation with your kids to Disney World or something. Right, that's not going to be on the template, it's not going to be on the templatized version that we give you, you've got to add that stuff, and that's the whole point of it, right, is to is to get you doing, is to get you in this in like kind of a new mindset, so that you're able to face the inevitable challenges that you're going to face, you know, building creating these new skills and doing something that you've never done before, right you've got you've got to, you know, kind of read presents yourself to why you're even doing in the first place.
Right I mean maybe maybe for you it has something to do with, you know, giving your kids a better life or something like that, right, is that on your morning formula, right you want to inspire your children you want to inspire you know other people is that on your morning formula right you want to show people what's possible for themselves in their lives. If that's the case, that needs to be on the morning formula.
That's the difference between doing the right thing versus being the right person. We talked a minute ago about the about the momentum track right about the above the, the, you know, the, the tracking tool that we give you to track the income producing activities that you're doing on a daily and a weekly basis, okay if you're filling that thing out.
right, just because I told you, just because we told you to write then you, then that's doing the right thing, right, where versus being the right person, this is this is where you're actually using that tool and you're actually looking at previous weeks of your momentum tracker, and you're saying, Okay, what, what can I do differently, how can I like the tool is designed not just to grow your business to but to make you better so that you grow your skills, right, look back at some of the other other weeks.
You should be doing this on a week to week basis like look back at the points that you generated this past week, and start to ask yourself, Where am I missing opportunities right What am I, what are, where are some areas where I'm not getting points.
What am I trying to avoid. Right What is, what are the things that I that I could be doing next week which is not just increasing my points but what are some of the learning lessons that I'm learning from these previous weeks, am I noticing any patterns here, right, and how I show up and how I'm producing results, right.
You guys got to be focused to what I call K, SCA n, I cannot be the acronym is can I see a ni consistent and never ending improvement. I devoted, I made a decision. A long time ago that I that like school is never out for the probe, I was going to, I didn't didn't matter where it were, you know what stage I had reached in my life.
I was going to continue growing learning, both personally and professionally. Because that's what successful people do. Right. Let's see, Just checking checking my notes here. Okay, doing the right thing versus being the right person.
Here's it here's another example, or you know just something that kind of helped me to illustrate my point here is success versus excellence, right, if you are committed to success. See, see success is about getting it is about getting the goal, getting the result, excellence is about keeping it, it's short term versus long term, right, doing the right thing, that's, that's short term and by the way.
I just want to make sure that you understand I'm not saying that you shouldn't do the right thing. You should you absolutely should do the right thing, but what but I want you to focus more on becoming the right person, right, because when you're the right person, you're going to do the right thing every single day.
Right, rather than just doing the right thing today. Right. And then, and then if it doesn't work out, you're like okay well I guess that didn't work right if you're focused more on being the right person, it's going to, there's going to be a mindset shift, it's going to be a shift in your, in your attitude and your beliefs in your thoughts that are going to translate to to new results in your business. Okay, success so doing the right thing is it's short sighted it's just it's just result oriented that's it, being the right person.
It's, it's, you have a more longer term focus. Right. If you're more growth oriented versus result oriented. Okay, that's that has to be more of the focus of you is, how can I get better.
Right. How can I become the person. If your goal is to make $10,000 a month, you've got to start asking, asking yourself, Am I making decisions from a person who's making $10,000 a month, or am I making decisions based on someone who's only making $500 a month, but I'm just paying lip service to the 10k per month goal, right, how can I become the person, where, where it's just inevitable that I'm going to hit the goal, because I've become the person who, who can hit the goal, right.
So, okay so I talked about excellence versus success, success is about getting it, excellence is about keeping it right, success is about getting rich. Excellence is about getting wealthy, are you, is the goal for you to get rich, or is it to get wealthy?
Okay, I would much rather get wealthy it's much more sustainable, it's much more long term. Getting rich is just about like keeping up with the Joneses. Right, that's just about like you know you're just you're, you're, you're, you're, you're just doing it because of how other people are going to see you.
You want them to see you as a successful person right there or your like your, your look, we are looking for like this smile or the or the, like, like you're looking to get somebody's attention and then you're looking to get somebody smile, that's something that a mentor asked me a long time ago, whose smile. Are you seeking, you're seeking that you're seeking the approval of somebody right whose approval.
Are you seeking in your life. If the approval that you're seeking is, you know the co workers or, you know your friends who are not up too much in their life. Right then, then, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons, right if you're seeking the approval and the smile of, you know your mentors, and the people that have, you know that are, that that, that, you know they're connected to you in business and your, your team members, right, those are the people that you that you that you that you should be trying to impress right rather than, you know, the people that that you know that really could care less. Either way, but I feel like a lot of us do that we seek we spend way too much time and energy and like mental bandwidth on seeking the approval of the wrong people in our life.
Okay, you guys let me know in the comments just, just, just drop a comment we want just one takeaway from from everything that I've shared over over this time this, you know the topic of doing the right thing, which I'm saying is fleeting right versus being the right person, where you are going to be able to create success over a very long period of time.
Do you do you recognize that you are that you're the actions that you're taking is not just to grow the business, it's to develop your own skill sets that you can use to build any business right over the next, you know, 510 1520 years of your life. Right, if you're if your goal is to, is, is just to get a result in this business so that I can make some extra money, right, you're probably your vision, you've got to work on the vision a little bit more, right, because if it's if it's all just about just the result that I'm going to get today. Then, you're then then you're doing it wrong.
Right. You've got it. You've got to be more focused on the long term outcome than the short term outcome, you've got to be more focused on becoming the right person if your goal is to make $10,000 a month. How can I become the right person what skills do I need to achieve what what beliefs do I have to challenge in my own in the know that are there in my own head and my own life. Right. What beliefs, am I going to have, am I going to have to challenge that so that I become the person that makes it inevitable typical.
